After lunch, we head off to our last stop on our day trip, Huaca de la Luna.Huaca de la Luna ("Temple/Shrine of the Moon") is a large adobe brick structure built mainly by the Moche people of northern Peru. It, with the Huaca del Sol, is part of Huacas de Moche, the remains of an ancient Moche capital city called Cerro Blanco by modern archaeologists. The Huaca del Sol was partially destroyed and looted by Spanish conquistadors in the 17th century, while the Huaca de la Luna was left relatively untouched.

The huaca (i.e. Temple) was decorated in registers of murals which were painted in black, bright red, sky blue, white, and yellow. Over thousands oy years the color of these murals have held up very well. Compare these two pictures. One from a sign and then the actual mural below

Huaca de la Luna is thought to have been a more ritual or religious structure. Every time the king of the Moche civilisation died, they would bury him here with these mural around and then bury the floor. There were seven kings and hence each level and as archaeologist excavated, they found different murals on each floor reflective of the people at that time.

Here is a good picture of one of the sides of Huaca de la Luna. You can see the murals, each created when a Moche king died.

We were recommended to the 'restaurant' and we came here both nights that we were in town. We would order the seafood and this guy, a Robert De Niro look alike, would grill it outside right infront of you.

That night, we made a bon fire on the beach. That was one of the coolest nights on our trip. Out hotel provided the wood and Kerosene and we spent couple of hours staying warm by the fire and chillin.
